The Purpose Of God
Full Product Description
The letter is a reminder to the churches in Asia to live out their faith in the light of the redemption unveiled by God. It is a section of scripture that has lastingly influenced many believers throughout church history. R.C. Sproul looks at the main issues raised in Ephesians.
These include how to overcome idolatry, God's sovereignty in ALL things and the importance of fellowship and commitment to the church for healthy spiritual growth. There are many areas in the epistle, which have occasioned real dispute in the Christian church, and these are dealt with in Sproul's customary style - deeply profound and the ability to communicate illuminating truth.
You will be surprised at how freshly Paul's understanding of the Christian faith leaps off the page.
The Purpose Of God by R C Sproul was published by Christian Focus Publications in January 2011 and is our 7392nd best seller. The ISBN for The Purpose Of God is 9781845506384.

The Purpose of God: EphesiansMartin Robinson, via The Good Book Stall
This book from RC Sproul is a short exposition on Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. This is neither a commentary nor a set of sermons on Ephesians. Whilst the book does focus on basic exposition of the text there is some practical application but the level and quality of practical and spiritual application varies considerably between the different chapters. The most helpful chapters on applying the text were in Chapter 1 where there is a helpful discussion on the core of the gospel in terms of personal salvation and Chapter 3 where there was a lot of useful application concerning the relation of faith and works. Because of the variable quality of application, I find it difficult to identify who this book would be most useful for. I would hesitate to recommend it for devotional use and there is very little reference to other works and sources to make it a commentary that Pastors should not overlook. Having said of all of that, if a Pastor already owned other good quality commentaries to use alongside this book, then the exposition of the text, particularly the introduction on Pauline authorship may aid busy Pastors in the preparation of sermons.
