Prayer - Awe and Intimacy with God by Tim Keller reconciles your deep urge to pray with the difficulty you experience in getting started, finding the words and having the faith to seek its fulfilment.
Most new and even many lifelong Christians are fervently looking for someone to teach them how to pray. It's because you're honestly seeking God's will and presence that you have that deep sense of the necessity of prayer - but how can you best go about it?
Timothy Keller knows that regular and effective prayer is fundamental to every Christian. He explains that prayer is the main avenue by which you'll experience deep and lasting change. He understands why so many people struggle with prayer because, as he freely admits, he has struggled himself.
Keller's wisdom and guidance is the hard earned fruit of those struggles. Now he can offer you a real and glorious vision of what it means to truly seek and find God in prayer.
Awe and Intimacy with God begins with an easy to grasp description of what prayer actually is; it's both a conversation and an encounter with God in person. Next, Tim explains how you can learn to pray, and then how you can deepen your prayer life.
Now you're ready to receive the popular and widely respected author's practical suggestions on how to make prayer a part of the reality of your daily life. In this stage by stage guide, Tim Keller gives you the basic tools of reflective prayer, self knowing prayer, communal and private meditative prayer.
This concise and practical guide will equip you to build your conversation and intimacy with God. Growing maturity in prayer will lead you toward fulfilling, in your own life, a workable culture of daily, weekly and monthly spiritual exercises and practices that will find you more connected to God, your world and to your own spirit.
Prayer by Timothy Keller was published by Hodder & Stoughton in November 2014 and is our 14218th best seller. The ISBN for Prayer is 9781444750157.

Any one acquainted in any way with Keller's work will know that this is going to be a good, well thought out, reasoned and more importantly accessible book on an incredibly important subject - Prayer.
There are admittedly many books on prayer but this one is a good addition to the stockpile, not least because of the beautiful overview of what prayer is you find in this book - not just a bibilical overview though, but one that pulls in other religions too and highlights the integralness of the idea of prayer to a spiritual life, in effect you find in this book a theology of prayer as well as a helpful guide and consideration to what prayer is and how we can approach it.
This is a book About Prayer more so than a book On Prayer, that's perhaps a subtle distinction but when you have finished reading this worthwhile book you will entirely understand the distinction I believe and you will feel your time was well spent in this submersive subject.
On a side note not related as such to the contents of the book, I would like to say that the larger print of the text makes this a very accessible book, and is welcomed.

Tim begins by focusing on the means for growth. The basic tool is prayer, including reflective prayer that expands self-knowledge; meditative prayer that makes beliefs real to the heart and changes personal identity; confession that cleanses the conscience and reshapes the affections; and communal prayer and worship that seals us into a life-changing community which renews human relationships. After exploring these means for change, Tim examines the gospel virtues - the specific changes in character that these measures can produce, and ends with an incredibly practical, workable section on daily, weekly, and monthly spiritual exercises and practices.
This is a book that will teach you to pray - and in doing so, will change your life.
