One of the most healing books I have ever read - Jane, a teacher in F.E.Norwich
I came upon ‘Paths Through Grief’ after a series of sadnesses in my own life. This book has been one of the most healing examinations of the process of grieving that I have ever read. Helen takes the reader on a guided journey, which she has clearly experienced herself. She does not dwell on sorrowful events but leads us gently and surely through the different aspects of grief. Each topic heads a chapter composed of Helen’s own insight and counsel, followed by a meditation, a visualisation, a prayer, a poem and a rich selection of relevant quotations. Yet Paths Through Grief is no anodyne placebo. In Helen’s concluding chapter, she challenges us to move on, armed with the insights gained through our sojourn in sorrow. ‘If the choice is between love with grief or no love and no grief, I choose love.’ (page 102) Thank you, Helen. This is a book I will return to again and again.
