NIV Lectern Bible, Black, Persian Morocco Leather (British Text) Product

Only £400.00

please send me page numbers from the NIV Lectern Bible so I can check that they match exactly our existing NIV pew bibles - please give me page numbers of the last page of Psalms, Isaiah, Hebrews and Revelation so I can check. Thank you.

A:Hi N Cutler, As we do not, at the time of writing, have any Lectern Bibles in our warehouse for me to head over to and check. I can only offer by advise, which is that there is a significantly greater chance of the pagination matching your own NIV Pew Bibles if they are published by Hodder & Stoughton. If not, then I seriously doubt that they would match. So sorry I haven't been able to give you a more concrete answer today, but I hope that is has, at the very least, been of some help to you today. Thank you for using the Q&A Forum. Aaron
Q:

Is this Bible one that uses inclusive language?

A:Dear Rev Wilson, Thanks for your question. The NIV Lectern Bible, Black, Persian Morocco Leather (British Text) is the latest 2011 NIV translation. Judging the gender inclusiveness (or gender neutrality) is a personal decision. However, the 2011 is not as gender neutral as the older and discontinued TNIV version or the extremely gender neutral CEB version or The Message. As a general guide, the 20111 NIV does not use gender neutral language where the translators interpret the context as referring to masculine subjects - such as individual men, clearly male roles or groups of men such as the disciples. Here's an example: Acts 1 : 21 (NIV) "Therefore it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us." Compared to... Acts 1 : 21 CEB: (gender neutral) "Therefore, we must select one of those who have accompanied us during the whole time the Lord Jesus lived among us. The 2011 NIV is more inclusive when context refers to the entire human race compared to the older more male tradition of the King James: Genesis 1:27 KJV "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him..." Genesis 1:27 NIV "So God created mankind, in his own image he created them..." Genesis 1:27 NLT "So God created human beings in his own image, in his own image he created them..." The 2011 NIV maintains references to God the Father, uses the pronoun 'He' in respect of God and Jesus, who is referred to as Christ the Son. In contrast to The Message which tends to avoid the issue in respect of the person to God using plural pronouns: Genesis 1:27 The Message: "Let us make human beings in our image," ... and even avoiding gender nomination in passages such as in the parable of the wise and foolish builders: Matthew 7:24 The Message: (gender inclusive) "You are like a smart carpenter who built his house on solid rock." Matthew 7:24 NIV: "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock." By the above examples, I'd say the NIV is not strictly gender neutral, but shows inclusivity when it comes to including all genders in the kingdom of God. Yours Les.
