My thoughts on NGB. - Peter, a minister that wants a better understanding of God, from Brierley Hill, West Midlands.
The Name of God Bible is a modern, well represented translation. The use of different colours within the Bible makes it stand out compared to the usual black and white of most Bibles. The format used is easy to follow but, it is best to read the preface before you start using it. Having the names of God a different colour within the text makes the verse come alive as you can see what office God is in. For instants, Elohim tells you that God is our creator and Lord over His creation. Yahweh tells us that God is our redeemer and provider, and so on. The information at the beginning of each book is good and giving the meanings of each name of God is very useful in understanding the character of God. The modern English translation is excellent in the sense that it makes good and easy reading but, in some places the old KJV is better. One of the down sides is that in the New Testament it does not use the Greek names for God and Lord, (only for the name of Jesus). So, you still have to find out if it talking about God Himself or Jesus, the Son of God. Overall I would say that the NGB is a very useful Bible to have in ones hands, both for the minister and the layman.
