Customer Reviews
Disappointing - Pauline - mum and Sunday School teacher
I got this thinking it was a wonderful way to say Happy Christmas to my under-6s at church - one book and DVD each! However, the set was really disappointing (but this did explain the excellent price) - especially considering that Wonder Kids usually produce good material and Max Lucado does some of the reading on the DVDs. The DVDs lack interest - they are not cartoons or films as I expected but close-ups of a picture of each story or song while the story or song is told/sung. Story CDs with the songs would have been so much better. The books are not easy to read as claimed. The narrative often includes more difficult words from the AV rather than child-friendly words. Some passages are great but others are quite negative and harsh - for example, Joseph does a lot of shouting which makes him seem angry. All passages are quite densely typed with a lot of text for each picture (ie not beginner readers). The pictures also don't always match up with the narrative in the books, and occasionally are even wrong - for example, the story of Daniel interpreting dreams shows a picture of a man in a colourful coat having a dream about the sun, moon and stars bowing down! I felt I could have given 4 of the 10 books away, and had reservations about the other 6. Very disappointing. I felt it was rushed in its production without due care.
