In The Shadow Of Idris
Full Product Description
The howling sounded very near and my legs felt like they were made of butter. Before I could stop myself, I screamed. Mary turned back and I grabbed her arm.
Its the Hounds! I shouted. Theyre out hunting! We must have strayed onto the Mountain! Theyre coming for us!
In the Shadow of Idris is a fantastic historical adventure story for children aged 8 to 11. Bryn cant make up his mind about Mary Jones. She doesnt go to church any more, and his mam says that Mary and her mum have started to follow the teachings of Outsiders. But to Bryn she seems normal and kind.
What will Bryn do when Mary and her mother get into danger? And will he help her get what she wants most?

In the Shadow of IdrisMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Bryn Parry is a figment of the author’s imagination but Mary Jones was real enough and her story has been told many times, but Ruth Kirtley has found a fresh way to tell about her. I enjoyed Bryn’s attitude to having to go to school in contrast to Mary Jones’, and was interested to learn that schoolmasters at that time moved from place to place. Historically correct, you get the feel of a small community in that time and place, the poverty, the pressures and the hardships of life for all the families. Mary Jones’ purchase of a Bible was a very special adventure.
