Martin Luther KingJohn Irvine, via The Good Book Stall
This is a very moving book written with passion and indignation. Its subtitle is “the inconvenient hero”. Harding details the way martin Luther King’s message has been sanitised and domesticated. Throughout he expands on King’s fierce opposition to “our destructive triple bondage, to racism, materialism and militarism.” This new revised edition of Harding’s book deals in particular with the last years of King’s life. We all remember the “I have a dream!" speech of 1963. However, later he became tougher, more radical, more critical of American home and foreign policy, particularly the Vietnam war. This book is very much relevant for today and should be read by all who hope and pray for a better future for the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalised. “We’ve still got work to do” is the final message.
