Making Disciples in Messy Church
Full Product Description

Making Disciples in Messy Church helps those involved in Messy Church understand the movement, and create an intentional disciple-making community.

Paul Moore, who has been involved from the beginning in 2004, writes this book to answer the skeptical questions many have asked of the Messy movement: “are people becoming Christians at Messy Church.” He proudly announces a massive ‘yes’, but wants to encourage groups to continue the gospel journey by focusing their attention on discipleship.

Through storytelling, personal experience, analysing the faith journey, and using biblical modals of discipleship from the Old & New Testament, Paul compiles a convincing and practical guide. In reading this book, ministers, leaders and volunteers will discover the untapped potential within their groups for genuine discipleship through the resource they have already created – community.

Paul is also a Vocations Adviser for Portsmouth Diocese. When not getting messy, he enjoys listening to progressive rock and playing jazz saxophone.

We Review Making Disciples in Messy Church
- James Warwood (Eden.co.uk Writer)

Bishop Paul Butler recently said, “Messy church needs to reinvent discipleship”. Well, Paul Moore (Church of England Vicar and founding member of Messy Church) says differently. His book clearly points towards Old & New Testament examples of discipleship that directly apply to a strong community framework, especially Acts & Jesus with his twelve disciples. Through case studies and these biblical examples, anyone daring enough to read the book will discover the Church has lost its community focus when doing discipleship/evangelism.

Reading this book has given me a new appreciation for church. The book itself is an easy, down-to-earth read with largeish font and small manageable chapters. The courteous page count of 126 pages tells you Paul doesn’t want to waste anyone’s time. Inside you’ll find our old friends the Engel Scale and the Gray Matrix. You’ll find more than a handful of stories from Messy Churches all over the globe. You’ll find practical advice that isn’t exclusive to the Messy model.

Most of all, you’ll be encouraged to craft your church's projects/groups/Messy Church/or whatever, into immersive learning experiences that feed your communities spiritual hunger and nurture faith, love and discipleship. Well done Paul!

Publisher's Description

Messy Church has been widely and enthusiastically adopted as a proven and effective way of introducing families to an experience of Christian community and the good news of Jesus. Sceptics ask, 'Are people becoming Christians through Messy Church?' The evidence is clear that they are. But the next challenging question is, 'Can Messy Church also nurture their faith and make these converts into disciples?'

The aim of this book, by telling stories, analysing the journey to faith, and reflecting on what being a disciple means and the various methods of making disciples found in scripture and church tradition, is to encourage ministers and lay leaders to see how their Messy Church can be an intentional disciple-making community.
