Lost in translation is a talk recorded at Baptist Assembly - 2012 on Practical Christian Life available as CD format.
For some Christians interfaith engagement threatens the evangelical assumption of the uniqueness of Christ and therefore Christian witness, whilst for others it has enriched their spirituality as they have discovered the presence of God in other faiths. Others seek to tread a middle road between the two poles. This conference will explore the different strands and help people negotiate the complexities of interfaith communication. Dr Glaser will open up Genesis 1-11's account of the religious nature of humanity. Participants will then have an opportunity, in groups, to explore texts from other faiths that speak about common religious ideas such as creation, sacrifice, relationship with God and fellow human beings, and so to reflect on how Genesis speaks into our world today . From this basis, in groups participants will have an opportunity to explore biblical passages and texts from other faiths that speak about common religious ideas such as creation, sacrifice, relationship with God and fellow human beings. Arising from this deepening of people's understanding, Suneel Shivdasani and Duncan Struthers will help participants to consider how they constructively speak to and work with people of different faiths. Particular attention will be given to the need to bear in mind the similarities and differences when we speak of prayer, practising our faith, how God helps us from day to day etc., in order to both learn from others and to share the gospel with clarity, grace and sensitivity. There will also be opportunities to share and pray for people with whom participants are engaged in on-going dialogue and witness.
Participants to include: Ida Glaser, Suneel Shivdasani and Duncan Struthers
