Leadership GoldIan Gibson, via The Good Book Stall
This “guru” has already produced a book entitled 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership- which should place him up there with the experts. But this current book is not so much about rules as about his experience as a leader and the things that he found valuable and still equates as being vital to being successful. He explains the need for understanding when teaching new leaders; not to move to quickly, but not underestimating skill sets already imbedded, not to take for granted the wish to be a leader and not to ignore experience in others. Each chapter is cleverly titled, picking up quotations and anecdotes – things like “the choices you make, make you” – all relevant and reaching out to you. The pages also contain quotes from great leaders and philosophers and thinkers, each of them don’t interrupt the flow of reading but actually add to the experience. At the end of chapters we find “a mentoring moment” which focuses the mind on the next part. A warning for those who are not used to reading books from US imprints – some of the language may be too much management speak. Look beyond some of these issues and you will find some great benefits in what you read.
