Landscapes of Prayer
Full Product Description
Prayer is often perceived as a difficult, 'place-less' exercise in which we close our eyes and seek God beyond our everyday experience in an invisible, ethereal realm. Despite Christian history being replete with vibrant imagery, today much of it has fallen into obscurity.
In this beautifully illustrated, contemporary book, Margaret Silf explores seven landscapes of prayer, both classic and modern: the garden, the desert, the cave, the urban jungle, the mountaintop, the seashore, and the forest. All are fruitful areas for self-discovery, inviting us to connect with the mystery of God in our lives.
Margaret Silf is a well-known retreat leader and the author of numerous books, including At Sea with God, Close to the Heart, Companions of Christ, Inner Compass, Sacred Spaces, The Gift of Prayer, One Hundred Wisdom Stories from Around the World, The Way of Wisdom, and Wise Choices.
Landscapes of Prayer by Margaret Silf was published by Lion Hudson in September 2011 and is our 14742nd best seller. The ISBN for Landscapes of Prayer is 9780745955285.

Landscapes of PrayerAlice Collins, via The Good Book Stall
I really liked this. It’s about nature and how we can use God to connect to nature. The author Margaret Silf is obviously a person who is truly in touch with nature, and uses it to get closer to God. It's packed with useful quotations and advice on how to live your life in harmony with nature. There's a quotation suggesting that nature makes it possible to ponder the mysteries of a person's existence. It's the sort of book to take to a nature retreat, or to the mountains, and there is also an implication that we need to use God's beautiful natural resources wisely. It's designed to not be the sort of book that you read from beginning to finish, but you can open a page - and whichever page you open, it will be good for the soul. This book can be taken extremely literally, or on a more allegorical note. For example, there is one page which dwells on time for grieving, and that's about your own personal inner cave as much as discovering the caves that Margaret Silf experienced in the Peak District and South Africa. The photography is beautiful and the book is a wonderful description of how to use God's treasure trove to get in touch with the soul.
