Irish musician Keith Getty has penned some of the most treasured modern hymns of the last decade, notably In Christ Alone with Stuart Townend. This, his first recording with wife Kristyn on vocals, effectively crystallises six years of this ministry in a sensitively produced, tastefully arranged treasury of ten of the most famous (plus one bonus track). Getty's writing perspective is inspiring – while the melodies are never short of memorable, you can hear the thought, heritage, study and prayer that has clearly gone into every line, while the songs always have the gospel of Christ at their heart. Even that title song – riding dangerously close to overexposure for some years now still manages to never become stale, and it's given a fine treatment here by Kirstyn's lilting alto. Other favourites here are opener There Is A Higher Throne�, the stirring 6/8 �Across The Lands, the meditation on forgiveness in The Power Of The Cross�, the joyous See, What A Morning� and, well, all of them. God bless the Gettys they've thrown down a gauntlet in regards to the possibilities of the worship song over the last decade; and how blessed the church is to be in receipt of such timeless songs to stir the heart and remind us of in Whom our faith is placed.
