What does a Holy Life look like today?
Rowan Williams, whose reputation for scholarly wisdom and theological insight are matched only by the clarity and immediacy of his writing, explores the history of men and women of faith who were called to live a holy life. And how their own insights can illuminate your journey of faith, and answer the question:
What is holiness?
From opening up the refined words of religious poets, to exploring the lives of theologians, saints, martyrs and missionaries, Holy Living is a timeless look at the ways our lives can bring us closer to God. Not only how we live like those great figures, but how and why we are called to live such a life in the first place.
How do we keep Christian faith in an un-Christian world?
And what does Holiness mean for personal identity?
In the second half of Holy Living, Rowan Williams explores what choosing a life of holiness means for personal identity. How, when we change ourselves to live a holy life do we know ourselves?
Written in an open and approachable way, Rowan William’s new book tackles big questions in clear voice. Ideal as an introduction deeper thinking about faith.
Holy Living by Rowan Williams was published by Bloomsbury Publishing PLC in September 2017 and is our 43589th best seller. The ISBN for Holy Living is 9781472948441.

In the chapters of this book he writes with profound perception about the life of holiness to which we are called. The range of Williams' frame of reference is astonishing - he brings poets and theologians to his aid, he writes about the Rule of St Benedict, the Bible, Icons, contemplation, St Teresa of Avila and even R. D. Laing.
He concludes with two chapters on the injunction 'Know Thyself' in a Christian context. Throughout, Williams points out that holiness is a state of being - it is he writes 'completely undemonstrative and lacking any system of expertise. It can never be dissected and analysed.'
