Francis Schaeffer: An Authentic LifeMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Colin Duriez studied for several months under Francis Schaeffer in Swiss L’Abri, and kept in touch over the following years, so writes with personal knowledge of the man as well as a deep interest in his life and work. This comes across in the book which is detailed not only about Francis Schaeffer but about his wife and family and the fight against theological liberalism that they were involved with from the start, culminating in the development of L’Abri ( meaning ‘shelter’ in French) where they lived by faith with the accompanying hardships this involved. Tensions between Fran and Edith are remembered by those who worked with them but also that these two very different personalities worked untiringly together to achieve what they knew the Lord was wanting them to do. The book is liberally sprinkled with the memories of family and friends giving it a very readable and engrossing quality that kept me reading to the end.
