Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (1774-1824) was a Roman Catholic Augustinian nun, stigmatic, mystic, visionary and ecstatic. As a child she claimed to have had visions in which she talked with Jesus; the Catholic Church later came to accept her claims as factual; that she really did have supernatural conversations with Jesus in heaven. She prayed for the souls of those people who she believed were condemned to Purgatory; she had many episodes in which she claimed to see the souls.
