Erwin W. Lutzer’s ‘The Cross and the Crescent’ uses real stories, biblical imperatives and informed insight to take a serious and level headed look at the questions Christians are asking faced with the growing influence of Islam in the world today. Looking at Christians’ fears for the future and the reality of multicultural society, the author explores issues including: How does Islam's growing influence affect me personally? In what ways are our freedoms of speech and religion in danger? How can I extend Christ's love to Muslims around me? This title provides answers to these questions.
Writing in his foreword, Dr Samuel Ezra Naaman of the Department of World Mission, Moody Institute, Chicago sums up the problem of that Christianity face in understanding Islam: “At its beginning… because some of its teachings are similar to Christianity, early Christians mistook Islam as a sect of Christianity.” Later, Luther described the core teachings of Islam as: “vehemently opposed to the teachings of Christianity.” Yet Dr Lutzer gives hope that Christians can actively engage with Muslims; infact, he writes, disengagement, is no an option.
‘The Cross and the Crescent’ provides encouragement to Christians to be neither hesitant nor afraid, but instead to be passionate about reaching out and sharing the hope and love found in Jesus.
