Celtic Christian SpiritualityJohn Irvine, via The Good Book Stall
The author of this book is a priest in the Episcopalian Church. The book consists of selections from the writings of early Christian communities in Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, Isle of Man and Galicia. The excerpts are short and are mainly from poems and prayers. A theme recurring throughout is the essential oneness and sacredness of all created things, that spirit and matter are inextricably joined, each with its own distinct characteristics. The question that is always in the background is - what is it to be a human being, to be in a human community in relationship with God? A very useful part of the book is the author’s own notes and comments in the opposite page to the quoted text. This is a book not to be read quickly but to be dipped into and slowly savoured.
