Product Description

‘C S Lewis A Life’ is a comprehensive look at the man behind the fountain pen – C.S. Lewis.

Life-long fan, Alister McGrath seeks to write a book which shines a light into the shadows. The result is an articulate, deeply researched and unsentimental portrait of the Christian scholar, theologian and author. Inside readers will discover his:
• Unconventional affair with Mrs. Jane Moore
• Misunderstood relationship with his father
• Curiosity about the sensuality of cruelty
• Pre-conversion state and his eventually conversion to Christianity
• Comprehensive study into his scholarly studies and the creation of his Narnia tales

McGrath’s finely tuned nose for historical study has sniffed out several new sources which shed more light on Lewis. Readers will discover the heart of a legend we’ve previously known little about, perhaps at time be shocked, enlightened and enthralled by this fascinating biography.

About the Author

Alister McGrath is Professor of Theology, Ministry and Education at King`s College London, and head of its Centre for Theology, Religion, and Culture. He is also Senior Research Fellow at Harris Manchester College, Oxford, and President of the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics.

After initial academic work in the natural sciences, Alister turned to the study of theology and intellectual history, while occasionally becoming engaged in broader cultural debates about the rationality and relevance of the Christian faith. Definitive new biography of C. S. Lewis, author of the ever-popular Narnia books

The recent Narnia films have inspired a resurgence of interest in C. S. Lewis, the Oxford academic, popular theologian and, most famously, creator of the magical world of Narnia - and this authoritative new biography, published to mark the 50th anniversary of Lewis's death, sets out to introduce him to a new generation. Completely up to date with scholarly studies of Lewis, it also focuses on how Lewis came to write the Narnia books, and why they have proved so consistently engaging.

Accessible and engaging, this new biography will appeal to fans of the films, readers of Lewis and of theologian and apologist Alister McGrath himself.
