Broken Works BestJackie Rowe, via The Good Book Stall
Catherine Campbell's book is a blend of Biblical teaching and personal lessons, addressing the 'problem of pain'. Catherine and her husband have had three children, two of whom were born profoundly disabled and died aged 10 and 13, so she writes out of deeply felt experience. She uses illustrations from her own and others lives, to encourage us to see that God can transform our suffering into fruitfulness - if we allow Him to. Catherine is a gifted writer, and I particularly enjoyed the way she brings Bible stories to life - drawing out the way in which God met with various characters in their time of great need. At the end of each of the five sections of the book, we are invited to take a closer look, by considering some questions and suggested readings. None of us knows when tragedy or trauma will strike: this book encourages us to be prepared and ready when it comes. Read this to deepen your faith in a God who can turn your pain into gain.
