Blues Heaven Best of Glenn Kaiser CD
Description
The blues, as Mr Kaiser explains in the sleevenotes, are "...for me, the most comfortable stylistic home, and...where I expect most of my future recordings...to be grounded." Bearing this in mind, it's fascinating to be taken, as the listener is here, on a musical journey through the history of the Resurrection Band (Glenn's Jesus music pioneers who gave us two decades of high octane heavy rock and, occasionally, blues), the Kaiser/Mansfield collaborations, and some of Glenn's solo material - including a sprightly, and hitherto unreleased, live performance of "Ain't Much Difference" at the 1994 Cornerstone Festival in the US. There's a delightful variety of music on hand, all with a blues bent, blending full band workouts from as early as 1978 (the Resurrection Band's 'Awaiting Your Reply' album), with stark acoustic blues such as Kaiser/Mansfield's "Slow Burn". Along the way, we're treated to some fine live cuts too, my favourite being 1994's rollicking "Everybody Understands The Blues". If you're a fan of the blues, there's no doubting the pedigree of this retrospective, and if you're not a fan, you could do a lot worse than to start your musical learning curve here.
