All Is GraceMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
Brennan Manning, author of The Ragamuffin Gospel written over twenty years ago, has now written this memoir reflecting on his life and continuing message that God loves you as you are – unconditional love – given to each and everyone of us by God’s grace.
From a dysfunctional family, Richard Manning became a monk and took the name Brennan. A lifelong alcoholic, he was nevertheless priested, fell in love and married, divorced and yet throughout all the turmoil in his life continued to preach and speak to the many who desperately needed to hear his message. A compelling and fascinating story.
I read this book with a mixture of emotions. The author writes with a rare honesty about himself and his life, his relationship with his family and those he has met along the way. We are left with an impression of a man with a mixture of gifts and failings, now nearing the end of his life but still giving and attracting love. God’s love.
