Acts and Omissions
Full Product Description
But does he have a secret? Archdeacon Matt is inclined to think not. That said, it's obvious to him that Bishop Paul's got a pretty big bee in his mitre about the brilliant but troubled Freddie May . . . Welcome to the fictional Diocese of Lindchester, where you will be taken (dear reader) on a yearlong romp in the company of bishops, priests and lay people. Prepare yourself for a bumpy and hilarious ride from the rarefied heights of the Cathedral Close down to the coal face of ordinary urban and rural parishes.
Acts and Omissions reveals the Church of England in all its mess and glory. It is a world shot through with grace, but one where even the best intentioned err and stray. And occasionally do those things which they ought not to have done . . .

Acts And OmmissionsBarry Vendy, via The Good Book Stall
Is the Church of England really like the fictional diocese of Lindchester, whose frailty and foibles are exposed in Catherine Fox’s humorous new novel which takes a ‘fly on the wall’ view of twelve months of goings on there? Surely in Lindchester, there would be Christians whose maturity and unselfishness would make them stand out and who don’t punctuate their conversation with frequent use of the ‘f’ word. At times, I found myself wishing that they would have turned up. But I know. ‘Acts and Omissions’ is fiction. Bad news usually makes more entertaining reading than good news, and this novel is certainly entertaining—if rather over the top. An entertaining and humerous read, though not without its concerns for some Christian readers.

''A delightful portrait of the follies and foibles in a contemporary Anglican diocese, written with wit, wisdom and impeccable liberal sympathies.'' --Michael Arditti, author and critic
''Clear-eyed, moving and mischievously funny, Acts and Omissions is at one with the deep linguistic and human resources that make the modern Church of England what it is. The novel brims with wit and heart, acknowledging the awkwardness and consolations of Anglicanism in the twenty-first century. Hugely entertaining and highly recommended.'' --Richard Beard, author of Lazarus is Dead
''Fox's novel, drawing skilfully on the high seriousness of a venerable religion, offers more substantial satisfactions than a reader has any right to expect from a first novel about student life.'' --The Sunday Times
