A Match Made In TexasZoë Stevenson, via The Good Book Stall
This book is basically 4 short stories set in 1893 in Dry Gulch, Texas where there is a matchmaker busying herself with hooking women up in dire straits with men of good character. I thought that this was a novel idea for a book and although written by 4 different authors, the style was continuous throughout and it hung together quite nicely. Each story has a connection of some sort with one of the other stories and it made for an interesting addition to the overall plot.
Each novella was suitably short enough that it didn't cut the story short in order that it stayed a novella and all of them were easy to read and enjoyable too. Because of the shortness of each story and the chapters within each story it allowed you to read manageable chunks, if short for time and if not, they you could read a whole novella in one sitting.
Each leading lady from each of the stories were diverse in character that plots never seemed 'samey', however the strong, masculine, godly man did but that is part of the draw of the story, every woman wants to be rescued, protected, supported, we all want our knight and these stories give each of the women this without being sickly.
I hope you enjoy this book, and you will if you like American period drama.
