A Boy, a Journey, a Dream
Full Product Description
Bazil's journey has taken him from the cotton fields of Montserrat to the 2009 FA Cup Final where LCGC performed the FA Cup hymn. He was born into poverty and a life without hope but found his future fulfilled through his calling to music.
Bazil left the Caribbean and came to England at 9. A difficult relationship with his stepfather led to his leaving home at age 13 and moving in with his pastor who suggested he take up music. She prayed and laid hands on him and by the end of the evening he could play the piano. Within a fortnight he was performing in public. To this day, Bazil still can't read music and plays purely by instinct.
He has worked with most of the greats - from Daman Albarn (Blur) to Beverly Knight.
Currently on tour with LCGC around the UK.
A Boy, a Journey, a Dream also includes a CD featuring Bazil and LCGC.

A Boy, A Journey, A DreamPhelim McIntyre, via The Good Book Stall
London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC) is one of the major musical hits to have come out of the UK having appeared on BBC Songs of Praise and on Channel 4; with Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross and Paul McCartney, and, with a UK top ten hit to their name, across the world in concert. Yet the idea was only to have a single concert – that was 25 years ago.
A Boy, A Journey, A Dream is an honest look into the founder Bazil Meade's life, both before the founding of LCGC and since. Having arrived from the Caribbean aged nine, Meade had to leave the family home as a teenager. How Bazil Meade got from this to founding the LCGC is an inspirational story of God's power and grace, especially in the light of controversies such as playing with non-Christians, the women wearing make up and other issues.
The songwriter Jerome Kern (writer of Smoke Gets In Your Eyes, Old Man River, The Way You Look Tonight and A Fine Romance amongst others) said of Irving Berlin (composer of such songs as White Christmas, Blue Skies, Easter Bonnet, Sisters and thousands of others) ‘Irving Berlin has no place in American music. He is American music’. A similar thing could be said of Bazil Meade and the LCGC and their role in UK Gospel music.
