Scripture Union Information

Founded by Josiah Spiers in 1867, and formally known as Children’s Special Service Mission (CSSM), Scripture Union has become an international Christian movement that has impacted on thousands of people across the world. It is a movement that is connected to churches across the globe, aiming to use the Bible to inspire all ages and diversities of people to connect with God. There are independent movements of Scripture Union across the world, all being linked together by Scripture Union International, providing services that are relevant to the cultures and situations in each country.

Throughout its years of being active, Scripture Union has grown considerably, most notably when the name Children’s Special Service Mission was dropped and the movement permanently gained the name ‘Scripture Union’ in 1960. Working in over 120 countries, Scripture Union has excelled in each of its 140 years being active and it continues to encourage people of all ages to connect with God through the Bible and prayer.  It produces a large amount of content and tools to aid in the development of communicating with God.

Scripture Union has culturally adapted to each country that it resides in, ensuring the work that is being produced is relevant and encourages people’s faith in God. Scripture Union’s aims are being implemented by permanent staff and thousands of volunteers, with various associated trusts and affiliates across the world, all being committed and worthy of such a fantastic movement.
