Full Product Description
Prostitution is a gloomy world that is full of dark characters and unwanted assignments. But Theresa Cumbers looked past this terrifying world and decided she wanted to reach prostitutes with God's word. An established business woman, Theresa visited the streets of Norwich and eventually established the Magdalene Group - a Christian outreach organisation that offers unconditional love to the women who have been trapped inside the murky world of prostitution.
Low Cost High Price shares the experiences of brave people caught up in prostitution: with help from the Magdalene group, they have confronted their demons and discovered God.
More on 'Low Cost High Price:'
Theresa Cumbers writes: "We went looking in the red light district of Norwich, searching for one of the women who we feared was missing. We found her rolling on the ground, in a very dark part of the area. She told us she had just sold herself for four cans of lager, and had already taken a cocktail of drugs and alcohol. Some days later we heard she had been admitted to hospital... this was to be the turning point in her life... She pulled through and, with determination, she now has a secure job in a high class restaurant."

Low Cost, High Price: Hope For Women trapped in ProstitutionMary Bartholomew, via The Good Book Stall
I found this book needed reading with prayer and serious thinking. It describes how a group of Christian women set out to ‘be there’ for the women on the streets of Norwich; not a place you would imagine to have a particular problem with prostitution. Hence this book is a real eye opener. Under the leadership of Theresa Cumbers, pairs of women went onto the streets and approached the working women with a flask of coffee and a friendly word, offering them someone to talk to and share their problems with.
From her experiences as a magistrate, Theresa had found that the women she was helping convict were usually victims themselves. Victims of drug and/or alcohol abuse, victims of pimps and drug traffickers, and of low self esteem and were often poorly educated. She resigned as a Magistrate and set out to help rather than penalise these women.
~The subsequent story of the development of the Magdalene Group and of working with NCAP, now better known as Beyond the Streets, www.beyondthestreets.org.uk is a mixture of heart ache and sadness with lives changed.
More and more towns and cities have similar groups and share their experiences and expertise. There is a far greater need than the majority of us even wish to know about. If it were not for the clients, there would be no men and women in the sex trade. The fact that this has always been so, is no reason for Christians not to do their utmost to help and support those affected. The Magdalene Group have shown the way.
