| London The Children's Society works to effect positive change in the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. The Society runs over 100 projects across the UK and has an enviable track record of influencing wider practice, social policy and legislation, through the knowledge gained from our direct work with children, as well as research and campaigning. The Social Policy Unit holds a central position within The Children's Society helping to shape perceptions of all that we do. Taking the lead on issues as well as working in partnership with other organisations, we seek to influence legislation and public opinion, respond to government agendas and bring about change which will benefit children and young people. The Unit works with MPs, government ministers and departments and professional networks, researching and advising on key issues of concern to children and young people. Following a review and a number of recent changes, we are now looking for 3 graduates with experience of policy and campaigns work to join us as Social Policy Officers at our London headquarters. We are particularly keen to hear from people who have expertise in the areas of poverty/social exclusion and youth justice/community safety but also welcome interest from those who are keen to develop their experience of policy work. This challenge calls for a flexible and highly organised approach to your work, so you should be able to work independently as well as be an effective member of the team. You will be an effective communicator with good presentation and report-writing skills and have a good understanding of political and parliamentary processes. You should also be positive and creative in your approach to problem solving and be IT literate. Interview date: 6th/7th March 2001. |
