‘Heaven’s Lessons’ the emotional, physical and spiritual journey of the burnt out pastor who died on the operating table and experienced heaven – twice!
“If you’d asked me who God is on December 9, the year of my accident, I would have been able to give you a fairly cohesive but theoretical answer. A day later all of that changed.”
What should have been a simple surgery, to remove his gall bladder, went horribly wrong. Due to severe bleeding Steve’s blood pressure dropped to a dangerous level and he died. He encountered a heavenly world in which he was overcome with all-consuming peace and indescribable love. But then he came back – back to the grueling reality full of painful recovery, disability and depression.
I had minimized God,” Sjogren says. “Somehow, over time, he had become fairly predictable—like he could be outlined, fully grasped, and contained in a neat set of mere ideas. Now I saw that he apparently wasn’t all that impressed with my cool little notebooks.”
In his honest and surprising book, Steve Sjogren shares his experiences of glimpsing heaven, the years of suffering that followed and how his understanding of God since that fateful day unraveled into a jumbled mess.
