Imagine you’re the pastor of a busy church and it’s time to sit down again and plan the autumn’s special services. Just where do you begin? Do you re-hash something you’ve already done, comb the web for inspiration or start with a blank piece of paper? Creative Mission gives you everything you need to begin designing your own without it feeling like you’re speaking someone else’s words. Most importantly Creative Mission is neither light on theology nor extravagant in its ideas. The 50+ suggestions in Creative Mission are entirely achievable.
The book is divided into four seasonal sections and each idea begins with an introduction that sets the context, a key bible verse supported by complementary text suggestions and then a variety of activity ideas to suit most ages and types of congregation.
One of the most pleasing aspects of this book is the way it interleaves secular and Christian festivals, thereby giving the opportunity for Christian insight to be applied to otherwise secular landmarks such as Apple Day, Prisons Week and Father’s Day.
This is a superb collection of immediately usable ideas that are accompanied by good notes, bibliography, and a variety of indexes. If it lacks anything at all, then a few more song suggestions specifically for each service idea would be very useful.
