Greenfield Church
Exerts from 'Greenfield Church Profile' (last updated 2001)... Greenfield church was formed by the coming together of the local Baptist and Congregational churches in 1976. We worship and work together under the 'Sharing of Churches Agreement Act'. This has been so successful that we now see ourselves as one fellowship...Greenfield church is situated in a predominantly white area in Urmston, a leafy suburb of Greater Manchester...The church's theology is 'middle of the road'. Denominational traditions such as infant and believers' baptisms, and profession of faith, for those wanting to enter into membership, are important aspects of our church. We see ourselves as a family church...We have a junior church, catering for three age groups, primary, junior, and seniors...We have three youth clubs, the membership of which is drawn mainly from outside the church. A senior youth club( 14yrs+) with about 6 members, meets on Sunday evenings, and a junior club ( 8-11yrs) with up to 20 members, meets on Friday night and the Rock Solid group (11-14yrs) which meets after the junior club on Friday nights. There is also a Brownie and Guide Unit affiliated to the church. The Church has adopted the 'Safe to Grow' policy and has appointed a Children's Advocate...There is a thriving mid- week ladies guild...a successful craft group...a mid week 'fellowship' group which is mainly a discussion group but has input into the Sunday evening services and a Friday lunch time service on the first Friday in the month...We have a carers group...All members and friends of the church have a carer who can help, advise or support as needed...We are involved ecumenically with the local Methodists, Anglicans and the Unitarians...Over the years Greenfield has had team ministry...At present this consists of a Ministry Team Leader (in training) and two lay people who are members of the church...The church also enjoys, and benefits from, visitors to the pulpit, as we feel we then have variety and are able to share in differing approaches to worship...We are always looking for new direction, to be able to reach out into the community.
