In the midst of public and private debate about the place of Christianity and the Gospel in our pluralistic multi faith society, here we have an academic work which makes the recovery of Christian mission possible. This is an in depth study of various cultural and theological concepts, many of which were new to me and stimulating to read. The key context in which he compares relative theology is the Asian world. This has much to show us in the west, but getting my head round some of the concepts from other faith traditions was a stretch. Even some of the Christian theology was new to me, like the reflection on the academic work of Raimando Panikkar who explored ‘Christic Theandrism’ as the ‘Unknown Christ of Hinduism’. This is a specialist book bringing a great deal of in depth material together. The wider appeal will be the conclusion which helpfully suggests how we can present the Christian Gospel today.
