    Product Description

Apologetics, the rational defense of the Christian faith in a public context, using the language of philosophy, is traditionally associated with either Roman Catholic theology or Evangelicalism. The contributors to this book seek to (re-)claim Christian apologetics in an Anglican Catholic context. The book originated in a number of successful Apologetics summer schools at St Stephen's College Oxford which generated interest in the rediscovery of apologetics in the context of today's Church.A star cast of authors from a variety of backgrounds offer constructive reflections on subjects such as:what is Apologetics, common objections to the Christian Faith, the atheism, apologetics and contemporary culture and apologetics in the parish.

    Imaginative Apologetics

This is a fascinating book. Andrew Davison has brought together the ideas of an impressive group of theologians to produce a book that is readable, intelligible, free of jargon, and packed full of insights that stretch our minds. The title can seem off-putting but the book offers us a composite analysis of the issues that impinge upon any attempt to relay the gospel.
We are introduced to a world that presents believers with a complex variety of challenges, for ‘The world is by turns predictable and unpredictable, logical and strange’. Yet that cannot let the Christian off the hook. ‘Part of our problem in presenting the faith is that our world deadens desire, and many people do not know that they are missing anything’.
However this is not a book that countenances despair. We glimpse what in Christian terms ‘a ‘successful’ human life would look like’, a life not lost in abstract musings but caught in the imaginative application of the faith. There is much here that offers hope and a more informed way to shape our message. This is a book that I can thoroughly recommend.
