A Gift - Beth Moore, Living Proof Ministries
Every now and then a book comes along that is not only great. It's a gift. An extravagant gift. This is one of those books.
God is good... all the time - Toby (TobyMac) and Amanda McKeehan
There is something silencing about sitting beside and looking into the eyes of a person who has walked through the valley of the shadow of death. But when that person tells you that the Lord God was there with them, in the darkness, your empathy turns to hope, even joy... Mary Beth has opened the doors of her stories to us, telling the secret ways that God personally comforted her and her family, so that our deepest fears may be overcome with hope. And that we can all walk in a deeper trust that God is good... all the time.
Compulsive and Captivating - Anne Rogers, Sales & Marketing Manager, Baker Publishing Group
There are some books I talk about because it's my job. There are some I talk about because they are wonderful books. This is one of the latter. In Choosing to SEE Mary Beth Chapman talks very frankly and openly about her life's path, and the ways in which things didn't go to plan, despite the way everything looked on the outside. Her family has had to walk through a Grand Canyon sized valley of the shadow of death. Yet this book is not depressing. Sad, yes, but often joyous too. Sometimes I laughed and cried reading the same page. I found the chapter covering the meeting with their first adopted daughter deeply moving, and the love which is shown there clearly binds the family together during the dark days following Maria's death. Their faith is inspirational - not least because Mary Beth is very honest about asking the hard questions which many of us run up against. Hers is not a 'champagne lifestyle' faith, but one which has been shaped by hard work and hard knocks. All in all I can't recommend this book highly enough. It's the best biography I've read in ages and ages. Read it. You won't regret it.
An Emotional Tragedy Filled With Triumph - Alex Pickering Eden.co.uk
Choosing To See was a very emotional read and it gives you a perspective of what other people go through every day that passes. But from anguish and loss comes the power of faith and Mary Beth Chapman is a truly remarkable character, whose life is constantly changing but manages to share her deepest experiences. This is an incredible biography, written with real feeling and sincerity in every word.
