We Review Pens: Talking to God

Living with God is a daily journey, and by using the Pens book it’ll become an adventure!

I love these books, and here’s why. Your average picture book has sensational illustrations and a top-notch story, but after 5 to 10 read throughs the message has become stale and the pictures have become familiar. So it gets demoted to the book shelf and replaced by another book. The great thing about ‘The Pens Series’ is that it's designed for daily reading, so you never re-read – instead you travel through life with God.

Each reading is spread across a double page in full-colour. They begin with a short Bible verse, followed by a simple story involving some of the stationery characters (Gloria Glitter Pen, Waxy Max, Philippa Feltpen & many more) then end with a question and a prayer. It’s a simple, but effective, combination. The stories are interactive, the Bible verses are memorable, the questions are child-friendly, the prayers are never longer than 20 words and everything is bursting with colour.

Strong readers will be able to read the whole double page aloud to an adult, while even the youngest of readers can have a good go at the short prayer. If you’ve never tried Pens with your 3 to 6 year olds, I highly recommend them to keen parents, children’s workers looking to encourage Bible reading and grandparents who want to feed their grandchildren's spirits when they come over to stay.
