New Christian Music for 2017

Aaron Lewendon - Category Manager

At the mid-point of the year, we take a look at the best Christian Music coming in 2017...

New Christian Music banner

Every July there is that moment where you look at a calendar and think ‘Blimey! It’s half-way through the year already’.

Where did it all go?

I can’t tell you where the time went, but can say we had a great soundtrack to our lives in 2017. New music from Bethel, Hillsong UNITED, Worship Central, Darlene Zschech, Lou Fellingham, Kim Walker-Smith, and many more have made 2017 a veritable parade of hits. Enough so that you’d be forgiven for thinking that was it for the year. Job’s done. Pack it up and move on.

But wait, there’s more!

Here’s a look at what’s coming for the rest of the year...

July:

Chris Sayburn - Saved by Grace

Chris Sayburn - Saved by Grace

A debut that has got us excited for the talent that the UK has to offer, North-West worship leader Chris Sayburn is everything you want from homegrown worship. Developing his gifts with New Wine Worship, Chris Sayburn has worked with Ben Cantelon, Nick Herbert and Brenton Brown to create an album that calls us to keep following Jesus through it all.

One for All: Live Worship from Spring Harvest 2017

For many, Spring Harvest is the highlight of the year. It’s a time where all the best Christian artists come together to praise Jesus with everything, and 2017 is no exception. Featuring Cathy Burton, Worship Central, Lou Fellingham, Pete James and more, this CD brings to moving atmosphere of live worship to your own home.

August:

Love Has a Name CD cover- Jesus Culture

Jesus Culture - Love Has a Name

This year has been a stellar one for Jesus Culture artists. Kim Walker-Smith and Chris Quilala, and the Torwalts have all released solo projects in the past year, and now they’re back together again. Love Has a Name promises to be a unique album, taking everything the groups has learned over the past year, and turning it into this new, live release.

Third Day - Revival

Third Day - Revival

It is mind-boggling to think that it has been over 20 years since Third Day released their first album, but for as long has there is demand for epic Christian music, the band has been there. Despite numerous awards and accolades, the band has always kept their focus on giving God glory, and with this new album, that mission is clearer than ever. In Revival, they draw on their musical roots to create an honest album of calling for God to move in the world.

September:

Planetshakers - Legacy

Planetshakers - Legacy

Passing another 20th anniversary in the list, we get a new release from worship supergroup Planetshakers. The Australian Pentecostal movement have consistently been a voice of triumph and testament in Christian music, and through the new songs in Legacy, they call for the whole world to rise up, lift their voices, and praise the one who made a planet for shaking in the first place.

Where His Light Was by Kristene DiMarco

Kristene Dimarco - Where His Light Was

Fresh from the incomparable Starlight, Kristene DiMarco releases her first solo album through Bethel music that, if her last releases are anything to go by, will be both deeply personal and universally moving. Where His Light Was adopts a light approach to worship music, and looks to share a confidence in Christ that is free from worry. No doubt, and album to watch out for.

On the Horizon:

Matt Redman - TBC

Casting our gaze further ahead, eagle-eyed followers may have spotted that a certain Mr Redman has been dropping hints and tweets about a brand new album coming soon! Whilst information is thin-on-the-ground, we do know that it features a gospel choir, a vocal group of over 120 voices, and was recorded in Capitol Studios in the USA. We don’t know what to expect, which has made up even more excited than before.

*Update* There is now a confirmed release date of 29th September. You can pre-order it today!

Rend Collective - Good News Tour

Rend Collective Tour and album

I can’t think of a more appropriate name for a Rend Collective tour: Good News. Beginning in America late in 2017, and then coming over to Europe in 2018, tickets for the tour are already for sale! And as well as a tour, reports of Rend recording in a studio have certainly not been exaggerated. Two new songs have already been shared on their YouTube page (No Outsiders & Weep With Me) where you also find a vlog that follows them as they travel, record, and live a life of worship and wonder.

What other releases coming this year that have gotten you all excited?
