This is one of the funniest, laugh-out loud, films I’ve seen for some time and one of the best from the Christian stable. The premise is straightforward; three stressed-out ‘Moms’ (well it is American) arrange a sophisticated, relaxing, girls night outtogether.
What could go wrong? Well in this case almost everything. Trying to switch off is not easy as the girls individually, and collectively, continue to worry about what their husbands are doing with their children. The reality turns out to be not as they imagined because it’s almost unimaginable. The frenetic slapstick chaos (there’s even a great car chase) which ensues is also infused with a great message; we’re not perfect.
As the lead character Allyson says, after her ‘epiphany moment’, “I’m a mess, but I’m a beautiful mess”, something which, I think, applies to all of us. Girls watch it with your girlfriends; guys watch it with your significant other, if you dare, and learn. Laugh together and enjoy. Brilliant!
