It’s not just the cover on this book that makes a strong impact, the contents do too. Jesus was an migrant, at times even an immigrant, something we find it very easy to overlook or ignore. Something that the Gospels labour and reflect upon, if we really read them, by not just looking forward but reflecting back to the Old Testament and the whole history of God’s migrant people, sojourners in strange lands, and exiles.
Deirdre Cornell summarises the biblical stories and proofs of the migrant within the Bible very well, going on to demonstrate the living reality these biblical stories in how we should receive migrants into our lives; of the grace and lessons that migrants of all sorts show us. The book is well written with short, insightful and engaging chapters filled with stories of migrants, immigrants and journeyers. Jesus was a migrant; if we accept Jesus into our hearts and lives we also need to accept such people in our societies today.
