GP Taylor Goes to Hollywood

Sam Hailes

Popular Christian author GP Taylor has announced the multi million dollar Hollywood adaptation of his novel Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box will feature an all star cast and be filmed from April.

The film's budget is rumoured to be in the region of $25million. Actors Michael Sheen (Breaking Dawn, Frost/Nixon), Sam Neil (Jurassic Park, Wimbledon) and Lena Headey (Game of Thrones, 300) will all feature.

Filming is due to begin on the 30th April in Bath, Bristol and Cornwall. GP Taylor said many of the "incredible" actors represent "the cream of British acting".

The ex rock and roll roadie GP Taylor, who is now a film consultant as well as an author said he is "over the moon" about the recent developments.

"The film script is better than the book! I feel like going back and writing the film script as a book. It couldn't be any better than it is."

The 54 year-old author originally sold the rights to the novel in 2009. The film will be directed by Johnathan Newman (Swinging with the Finkels, Teeth), who Taylor predicts will soon win an Oscar.

According to Variety, which leaked the story earlier this week, London's Entertainment Motion Pictures, Barcelona's Arcadia Motion Pictures and Belgium's uMedia will produce the film.

The author is best known for writing the New York Times bestseller Shadowmancer. While he admits Mariah Mundi and the Midas Box has not been taken on by a Christian publisher, he has strong views about the combination of faith and writing.

"There's a lot more faith embedded in 'Mariah Mundi' than there ever was in Shadowmancer... Christian books are read by Christians and that's not what I'm about. I'm about taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to people who don't believe.

"If the film can have that golden thread of wonder and awe and mystery running through it then I think we're going to attract more people to God. We don't have to preach, we just show them a higher moral value and that speaks for itself."

Casting is currently underway and the author has encouraged fans of the book to email [email protected] should they wish to audition.
