Donate to a Food Bank

Generosity is in the DNA of Christianity. It’s a material way we can express God’s love in a way that changes lives for the better. A way to meet the needs of God’s creation. Right now, that need is most felt in the difficulties many people are facing in simply getting hold of food for themselves and their families. For some, that difficulty can come in not being able to leave the house. For others, the loss of work dues to COVID-19 is affecting their financial situation.

Food banks are one of the most effective ways we can express God’s love to people. It is immediate, nourishing, and meets the needs of anyone who comes.

To find your nearest food bank, the Trussell Trust has put together a map of food banks to help you locate your nearest one.

If you want to hear of the amazing difference Christians have made in people’s lives, look no further than Magnus Macfarlane-Barrow. Moved by reports of hunger and troubles in Bosnia, the then shy fisherman and his brother took time out to go there and volunteer for a week. But that week became the rest of Angus’ life as he worked to provide food for those who needed it. In doing so he helped found Mary's Meals. The mission of Mary's Meals is to eradicate childhood hunger, and through their work, countless children have received the food to help them grow and develop. His book The Shed that Fed a Million Children has gone on to inspire readers around the world to help stop hunger in its tracks.

Magnus’ next book Give: Charity and the Art of Living Generously offers a deeper look at why generosity is so integral to Christianity. But more than that, he shows what it means to be effective in that generosity. Give is a powerful and thought-provoking read for anyone involved in charity at any level. It also offers a message of hope. That the work we do changes lives.

So, if you are able and want to make a difference, finding your local food bank is the best first step to take.
