Did you catch the latest episode of BBC Small Axe?

If you're new to the series. BBC Small Axe is a series of films directed by award-winning director Steve McQueen. Each film tells the lives of immigrants in London in the 1960s and 70s.

The latest film in Small Axe anthology stars John Boyega as Leroy Logan, an officer in the London Met Police with a mission to reform the police as an institution. Red, White and Blue is a powerful police drama as well as a searing account of the prejudices of the time.

It's also an immensely powerful true story with faith at its heart.

If you caught the episode last night, or want to learn more about the life and faith of Dr Leroy Logan, he recently released a book describing his career in the Metropolitan Police: Closing Ranks.

Published by SPCK, read about the book below:

Closing Ranks by Leroy Logan

"Described by the Voice newspaper as one of the “black officers who helped change the Met”, Dr Leroy Logan, MBE, is one of the founder members of the Black Police Association Charitable Trust. In Closing Ranks, Leroy describes his 30 eventful years in the Metropolitan Police.

Born in 1957 to Jamaican parents, Leroy is a proud Londoner, a staunch Gooner, an advocate for good relationships between the police and Britain’s minority ethnic communities, a mentor to young people, and an advisor on knife crime. But policing wasn’t his first career choice. After three years working as a research scientist at the Royal Free Hospital, Leroy decided a change was in order. Strangely, everyone seemed to think that one job was ideal for him...

Closing Ranks is a lively and entertaining read. It's also a history lesson in race relations in modern-day Britain, and a manifesto for anyone with a desire to mentor young people. Throughout, Leroy’s passion for good policing shines through, as does his concern to guide and empower young people. Underpinning all is his strong Christian faith, which helped him persevere in a frequently hostile work environment – and in the process, encourage other black officers to stay on and help change the culture within the police."
