Why?, a debut book by Sharon Dirckx (published by IVP), won the Christian Book Award for Adult Book of the Year, sponsored by Speaking Volumes. Sharon received her award from well known TV presenter Pam Rhodes at a ceremony held during the 2014 International Christian Resources Exhibition at Sandown Park in May.
Speaking as she collected the award, Dirckx declared herself to be “a bit overwhelmed” to receive an award for her first book adding that she had aimed to write “an accessible book which dealt with the questions people ask in relation to their day-to-day lives”.
The Christian Book Award for Children’s Book of the Year went to Professor Bumblebrain’s Bonkers Book on Parables, by Andy Robb (CWR). He received his award from author and renowned storyteller, Bob Hartman.
Speaking Volumes’ Paula Renouf, who hosted the event, congratulated the winners and the other nominees on making it to the shortlists which were very strong in both categories. She also paid tribute to the panel of experts who whittled the original 100 nominations down to five in each category.
