A spotlight on great new Christian books, here's our pick for Eden Book of the Month

February is a month of purification. Its name comes from the Latin for ‘month of purification’: februarius mensis.

Whilst for us February is the second month of the year, for the Romans, februarius mensis came at the very end. The purification in February's name is one of fire. The name has links to old words relating to “smoking” and “burning” that can be traced in our modern word “fume”. It is through fire renewal happens. Much like with sacrifices to God in the old testament, fire purifies. It also shows God working. From the pinnacles of mountains, God spoke through fire; on the tongues and heads of the early Church fire demonstrated God’s Spirit; in the challenges lay down by Elijah fire proved God’s power. In the Bible, fire showed God’s power and it is by fire renewal happens.
