Commitment to wife, family and community

Inside ‘The Resolution for Men’ is the 11 point ‘I will’ commitment men with courage in Christ can make to their wives and families. With this resolution, men are set free to take back their true role in their own families, church and community.

The 11 point resolution is no easy option. The declarations require true courage and strength – not merely bravado and brute force. The introduction ends with the words of 1 Corinthians 16:13. A call for men to ‘Be alert; stand firm in the faith; act like men; be strong.’

This is no call for men to plough on regardless of what goes on around them. Fathers and husbands are helped to pay attention to signs of strain and stress in wives and children, and to keep watch on the faith and spiritual growth of the whole household.

Reconnecting to what it means to be a man

Early in the book men are urged not to become the missing piece. Fathers are reminded of the need to connect with children and helped to avoid becoming the soap opera stereotype of passive, directionless fatherhood.

Husbands are encouraged to consider themselves a man in all aspects of marriage. To be strong is not to quit when times get tough, get up when you’ve been knocked down, to be a mature man and not a child.

 

The vision of lifelong fatherhood

Part One of ‘The Resolution for Men’ deals with questions of why the world needs men of resolution and the vision of lifelong fatherhood. Part Two takes each of the resolutions in turn and explores how men with courage in Christ are able to meet those commitments.
